Steve Emerson Announces Run for MPC Board.

Steve Emerson sent out the following note on Sunday July 20 , 2009

I am very pleased to announce that I will be filing papers on Monday to run for the Marina Trustee position on the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) Board.

Over the last three years I have served on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee for MPC representing Marina, the last two years as vice-chairman. It is through this experience that I have seen how MPC works and how much of a benefit this resource is to our community.

I truly believe in the importance of MPC for our community especially during these economic times. Right now MPC has a temporary facility in Marina serving more than 600 students. A permanent MPC campus will be built in Marina over the course of the next couple of years. This campus will serve as an important training ground for new jobs that can and will benefit us all. I want to see that this new Marina campus becomes an integral part of our community and our economic future.

Of course, one major issue stands out in the coming years: that of the state of the California budgets and how they will affect MPC. There will likely be some hard choices to make in the future.  I feel that my financial background can help with the discussions as the Board navigates through these difficult times.

We are very fortunate to have a community college that has taken great strides over the past few years to improve its faculty relations, rebuild its infrastructure, and enhance its overall balance sheet. I want to continue this important work for the benefit of Marina and all our communities on the peninsula.

I would like to hear from you, especially about what issues you feel are important as they relate to MPC. I value your input so please feel free to e-mail me at this address or call me at 717-4116 during business hours or at home 883-2380.

I welcome your support in the coming months and ask for your vote in the November election.

Thank you,

Steve Emerson
