Gets Army Officer Commission

Vision, Mission, & Values Donald

Long time Marina resident Donald Frazier received his Army 2nd Lieutenant Commission in the Field Artillery Branch Saturday June 13 2:00 PM. Cadet Frazier served as a Bronco Battalion Tactical Training Officer. Making San Jose State University and the Bronco Battalion his choice for ROTC was an easy one. After growing up in Marina, he enjoyed the weather and the close proximity to family. An active member o the California National Guard for the past 3 years. Cadet Frazier has developed a reputation as the most tactically gifted of his peers and achieved an overall rating of Excellence at the Leader Development and Assessment Course (LDAC, Top 20% for summer training). The Spring 2009 Commissioning Ceremony was held in the Recital Hall, Santa Clara University. The Bronco Battalion Reserve Officers Training Corps commissioned 12 Cadets. Distinguished guest Lieutenant General Joseph F. Peterson, Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff U.S. Army Forces Command, gave the Commissioning Address. Each Cadet took front and center to take their Oath of Office and the pinning of their Lieutenant bars. What made this moment more special was Family pinned the bars onto the uniform. This was followed by the newly Commissioned Officer receiving his first salute. This referred to as the Silver Dollar Salute. It is an honored tradition. A brand new Second Lieutenant proudly hands a shiny silver dollar to the first enlisted Soldier who salutes him or her. It represents the symbolic receipt of respect due the newly earned rank and position. It signifies a deep sense of gratitude of the new officer for the knowledge the enlisted soldiers, especially NCOs, have passed on to them during training. It is acknowledgment from one professional soldier to another. Post Commission Ceremony, refreshments were served for friends and family out on the lawn.
