Special Olympics Torch Arrives

Beginning Thursday, June 18th, 2009 law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes will carry Special Olympics Torches through the streets of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Francisco Counties. The journey begins Thursday morning with two legs winding through the streets of local counties traveling north and west and will converge on June 26th, 2009 for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2009 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games at UCDavis, CA The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run within the West Bay Region consists of officers from over 75 agencies who raise money and awareness for Special Olympics through a variety of activities, such as; Tip-A-Cops, Truck Pulls, Trampoline Dodge Ball Tournaments, Jail n’ Bails, T-shirt sales and local events created by local law enforcement personnel and Special Olympics staff. About Special Olympics: Special Olympics Northern California, West Bay Region serves over 3,100 local children and adults with developmental disabilities providing year-round sports training and competition at no cost to them or their families. With over 15,000 persons with developmental disabilities in Northern California, the organization offers all eligible persons the opportunity to participate, which is made possible solely through generous financial contributions and dedicated volunteers.
