Seaweeds Key to Sustainable Society
Dr. Graham is an Associate Professor at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories/San Jose State University and a Marina City resident. His research has advanced our understanding of what factors regulate the distribution and productivity of kelp forests, the ecological impacts of kelp deforestation, the impacts of climate change on kelp systems, and has led to the discovery of new kelp habitats worldwide.
Seaweed aquaculture techniques are well established in many regions around the world, primarily to support human consumption. Our research at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories indicate that seaweed can be easily cultured to support human nutrition, as feed for farmed abalone or a source of carbon for biofuel. This talk will focus on the utility of such seaweeds to promote more sustainable aquaculture practices while simultaneously decreasing pollution levels in our air and coastal waters.
Dr. Graham will speak at the Science Café at the Marine Labs about Seaweeds as a key to a Sustainable Society on Wednesday, September 16th at 7pm (Seating is Limited, early arrivals welcome) at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories
