Seeking a Higher Perspective
Greetings! Did you feel the summer eclipse cycle? I sure did. Most everyone I have worked or talked with has something important changing or developing in their lives.
The eclipses revealed that which has been buried on both personal and collective levels. It has been harder to keep feelings and fears concealed, from others and oneself.
When these emotions come to the surface and collide with the emotions of others, we can get stuck in our thinking so we can't see the forest for the trees. We get caught in details, not seeing the big picture or understanding the whole situation.
Let's talk about this and how we can be more aware of it in our own lives, because ultimately I think most of us do want to be able to see life from a higher perspective.
One way to see the bigger picture is to be consciously aware of your reactions to every event in life. Emotional reactivity indicates a narrow focus (not a bad focus, just a bit narrow). If you are reacting emotionally to things, this is an opportunity to step back and look for the higher purpose.
One way to do this is to ask, "What is really going on here?" For example, what is the higher purpose for an illness? Or job loss? Or a relationship ending? When we ask this, we open ourselves to the realm of higher conscious awareness. This helps us to see the broader scenario through the eyes of wisdom. From this perspective, there isn't emotional reactivity. There is simply what is.
Reactivity comes from what we could think of as our "lower self." This lower self (or ego self) is not bad. It is not an aspect of ourselves we want to "get rid of." It is necessary in important ways. And it best assists us in navigating through life when we teach it to manage its reactivity.
Your "higher self" can teach your lower self how to be more effective and powerful in your life. Your higher self, the part of you that is all-knowing with a direct link to the Divine, already sees the big picture. It understands that life is a playground where we learn many things. It accepts that all of life serves the greater good. It knows that the things we might dislike are operating for the best and highest good of all.
So how is the higher self accessed? And how do we know when we are stuck in the little details without a view of the entire forest? These are relevant questions which, due to length, I would like to answer in the following edition. Stay tuned…
