Marina Teen Center Opens With Two Day Celebration
About 14 years ago the Mayor and City Council saw a need to provide a place for the teens of this city.
When a house and property came for sale adjacent to the Los Arboles School and ball field, funds were scraped together to purchase the property. Budgets being what they always are, there were not funds to do much to the property. Attendance at the teen center grew over the years. A couple of years ago the Building and Planning Department had proposed upgrading the Teen Center, only to find that was not sufficient. Moneys came available through the Abrams B Bond issuance. These funds were used to build the new Teen Center. Friday September 11th a VIP an evening reception with held. There was a great turn out of Community Leaders. Saturday September 12, 2009 the New Marina Tak Takali Teen Center opened. Festivities began at 9:30 AM with a rededication ceremony of the skate park. At noon the doors opened to the Teen Center. A big community BBQ was held and facilitated by the Marina Volunteer Association. The building is an open airy building with loads of the latest technology. The new Teen Center sports a full basketball court and many places to sit and gather with friends. There is a skateboard rack and soon there will be skateboard lockers.
