TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR MARIJUANA CULTIVATION & SALES
.On June 19, 2009, approximately 10:30 AM, officers from the Marina Police Department arrested 38 year old Danny Reyes Barcinas of Marina and 37 year old Nathan Allen Smith, also of Marina for charges related to the cultivation and sales of marijuana. Their arrests came after a lengthy investigation stemming from them reporting being victims of a home invasion robbery on May 21, 2009 about 9:00 PM.
On May 21, 2009 Barcinas and Smith reported that two suspects had entered their residence on Andrew Circle in Marina armed with a baseball bat and a handgun, assaulted them with the baseball bat and stole money, firearms and marijuana.
As the investigation into the robbery progressed, investigating officers discovered evidence that Barcinas and Smith were dealing in the sale of marijuana and other drugs. The Marina PD Investigations Bureau served two search warrants on May 22, 2009 and June 4, 2009 at Barcinas and Smith’s residence and found packaging materials used in the sales of illegal drugs, approximately 10 pounds of marijuana and 120 pounds of illegal fireworks.
Further investigation led to the service of a third search warrant on a separate residence on Andrew Circle believed to be connected with the sale of marijuana at Barcinas and Smith’s residence. Upon service of the third search warrant, officers found evidence of an illegal in-door marijuana growing operation. Hydroponic grow lamps, fertilizer and other items indicative of an in-door growing operation were located inside the residence.
As a result of the investigation on June 19, 2009 Marina Police obtained arrest warrants for Barcinas and Smith. Both suspects were arrested without incident the night of June 19 and booked into Monterey County Jail. The bail amount for each suspect was set at $35,000.
