Marina Medical Student Doctor of Osteopathic
Courtney Nolan of Marina California received the Doctor of
Osteopathic
Medicine (D.O.) degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic
Medicine (LECOM) on Sunday, May 31, at the Louis J. Trullio Arena in
Erie, PA. LECOM held commencement ceremonies for its medical and
pharmacy classes, along with the school’s third class of master’s degree
candidates: 217 medical students, 124 pharmacy students and eight Master
of Science in Medical Education Students receive degrees.
LECOM graduates go on to osteopathic internships through the American
Osteopathic Association intern match program, or choose a medical
specialty internship and residency program. Osteopathic medicine
emphasized a whole-person approach to health care. The D.O. helps each
individual achieve wellness by focusing on health education, injury
prevention and disease prevention. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine
provide all of the benefits of modern medicine, including prescription
of drugs, surgery and the use of technology to diagnose disease and
evaluate injury. D.O.s offers the added benefit of hands-on diagnosis
and treatment although a system of therapy known as osteopathic
manipulative medicine, or OMM.
Courtney attended J.C. Crumpton School, Olson School, the G.A.T.E.
program at Ord Terrace in Seaside, and Fitch Middle School. She
graduated from Santa Catalina School in 2001 and earned her Bachelor of
Science degree with a major in Biology from the University of Dayton
Ohio in 2005.
Upon graduation from LECOM, she moved to Cuyahoga Falls Ohio. On July 1,
she began a three-year residency program at Akron Children’s Hospital in
Akron Ohio, specializing in pediatric trauma.
